Elon Reeve Musk is a business magnate and investor, born in Pretoria, South Africa on June 28, 1971. At the age of 18, he moved to Canada, acquiring citizenship through his Candian-born mother. He received a bachelor's degree from the University of Pennsylvania. He then moved to California to attend Stanford University, where he dropped out to work with his brother Kimbal to co-found the software company Zip2. After selling Zip2 to Compaq for $307 million, he co-founded X.com a bank that merged with Confinity to form PayPal in 2000, which eBay purchased in 2002 for $1.5 billion, leading to his investor green card and US citizenship in 2002.

With $175.8 million, he founded SpaceX and became an early investor in Tesla Motors, a fledgling electronic vehicle company. He became CEO of Tesla in 2008. In 2006, he helped create SolarCity, a solar energy company, that soon became Tesla Energy. In 2022, he acquired Twitter for $44 billion.
